Introduction to CMLT
The Three-Year Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology (CMLT) curriculum is designed to produce competent mid-level medical laboratory professionals equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and professional attitudes required to provide quality diagnostic, curative, preventive, and promotive laboratory services to the community. These professionals are trained to collect and process clinical specimens, perform laboratory investigations, analyze body fluids, tissues, and other biological samples, maintain laboratory equipment, and ensure accurate reporting of test results. They play a vital role in supporting physicians and other healthcare professionals in the detection, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of diseases.
The program is spread over three academic years. The first year focuses on basic sciences and foundational subjects that provide the essential knowledge required for medical laboratory practice. The second year emphasizes the theoretical and practical aspects of core medical laboratory disciplines, enabling students to develop technical competence in laboratory procedures. The third year is dedicated to comprehensive clinical practice, where students apply their acquired knowledge and skills in hospitals and medical laboratories under professional supervision.
Graduates of this program have diverse career opportunities in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, clinics, blood banks, research institutions, public health laboratories, industries, physicians’ offices, forensic and crime investigation laboratories, and other healthcare settings.
The curriculum is developed in accordance with the professional standards and code of conduct established by the Nepal Health Professional Council (NHPC), ensuring that graduates are competent, ethical, and prepared to meet the healthcare needs of the nation.
